Welcome to Wenvoe

Wenvoe (Welsh: Gwenfô) is a Welsh village in the Vale of Glamorgan located on the western side of a shallow valley between Cardiff and Barry, surrounded by woods and farmland.

The Community of Wenvoe encompasses the communities of Dyffryn, St Lythans, Twyn-yr-Odyn and Brooklands Terrace/Parc y Gwenfô. The Community consists of around 800 properties, 500 being located in the village.

Wenvoe is a popular commuter village conveniently situated for the City of Cardiff but set in the countryside only a few miles from the sea and with easy access to the M4 motorway a few miles away.

The village developed around the parish church, which can be traced back to the 12th Century with the adjacent locality now being a conservation area. The village has a well-stocked store with a post office, a church, primary school, a public house and travel lodge, a part time library and three halls. There is also a public house in the adjoining hamlet of Twyn-yr-Odyn, and another church at St Lythans.

Wenvoe has a very healthy community spirit which supports many local community groups with activities to meet everybody's needs. Amongst these are Wenvoe Scout Group, Youth Club, the Village Quaffers, Ladies Choir, Rotary, W.I., Whist Drives, the Church and many social events. It also boasts its own monthly newspaper titled the 'Wenvoe What's On'.

WENVOE VILLAGE SHOW.

The Wenvoe Scout Group will be staging this year’s show on Saturday 14th September. The full list of this year’s categories will be published in the July magazine edition.

The categories will be the roughly the same as last year with the following exceptions. In the vegetables we have included a class for chillies. The culinary section is unchanged except for jam tarts are being replaced with a quiche of your own choice. In the craft section we have amalgamated the two needlepoint/cross-stitch classes for small and large items into one class.

A new class is added for knitting/crochet items. There will be a class for an item made from wood and a new class for any model kit item ie airfix etc., all other craft entries will be included into a single class.

The photograph categories this year are (a) farm animal[s], (b) older than 100years, (c) oddities in nature, (d) Welsh landmark, and (c) people [note plural not singular]. You now have 4 months to seek out your subjects that fit the descriptions.

The children’s section will include sweets, baking, colouring, photography and this year a decorated pebble or stone for the craft section.. The limerick to be completed this year is “A Scout went ………” This gives a wide field of choice on how you could continue.

If you feel there is an item missing, please let any of the Scout Leaders know in the next few weeks so your suggestion can be considered before the complete list is published.
